Alcohol and pregnancy: In our report on advice to pregnant women to abstain from alcohol because it could harm unborn babies, National Health and Medical Research Council post-doctoral research fellow Colleen O’Leary was attributed as saying there were risks to brain development based on moderate drinking three to four standard drinks a day (Abstinence urged during pregnancy, page 27, May 28). The figure should have been three to four standard drinks once or twice a week.

John D’Orazio: In reporting on the funeral service for former WA State MP John D’Orazio (Hundreds pay respects at D’Orazio farewell, page 6, April 21), we incorrectly referred to Ballajura parish priest John Jegorow as saying Mr D’Orazio had said things that would make the front pages of the newspaper, if repeated. Father Jegorow did not make any such statement about Mr D’Orazio. He was making a light-hearted reference to a conversation with another person.

Mr Mullins: On page 6 yesterday a report mentioned that Patrick Joseph Mullins, 42, of East Fremantle, had been charged with attempted aggravated sexual penetration, wilful damage and aggravated burglary. We would like to make clear that the charged man is not Patrick Joseph Mullins, a former prominent resident of Fremantle, who once ran as an Australian Democrat candidate and now lives in the Goldfields, where he runs an art gallery.

Zentai case: Allegations that Charles Zentai had stood over the bleeding, dying body of an 18-year-old Jewish man he bashed to death in Hungary in 1944 and described the noise of blood flooding his lungs as “music” (Killer in our midst? Agenda, page 23, October 31) are disputed by his family. Mr Zentai’s son Ernie Steiner claims several witnesses attributed the comment to another man, Captain Bela Mader, in statements presented at the officer’s trial in 1946 and this could be verified in court records.

Housing density: Cottesloe Mayor Kevin Morgan is concerned that “perfectly good houses” could be demolished to make way for high-density housing, not for high-rise, as we reported in our Inside State column (Home truths about housing crisis, page 21, October 28). The comment was taken in good faith from a previous story that contained the error, which was corrected at the time but the correction was not recorded in our archive. We regret repeating the error.

In our report, Marlborough fined for lying to crime watchdog (page 1, October 23), we incorrectly stated that public servant Paul Frewer was found not guilty of giving false evidence to a Corruption and Crime Commission inquiry into the Smiths Beach development proposal.
Mr Frewer was never charged. The West Australian apologises for the error.
