IN THE article “Court castigates cop”, The Times yesterday incorrectly referred to the police officer accused of murdering Janet Odendaal as “Mhlari”. The article said Mhlari had been treated for alcohol abuse.
Mhlari is the magistrate who was hearing the matter. It is the accused, Sergeant Manape Kgoale, who was treated for alcohol abuse.

ON JULY 7, The Times published an article “Kaunda wins battle in the presidency – Zuma’s top aide tightens her hold as two more key officials prepare to leave”. Lakela Kaunda, deputy director-general in the Presidency, complained to the Press Ombudsman and The Times has been found guilty of contravening the Press Code for not approaching her for comment before publication of the article. On Page 2, we publish a summary of the judgment as directed by the Ombudsman.
We apologise for the errors.

IN AN article on June 28, The Times referred to Zimbabwean businessman John Bredenkamp’s “frozen seafood company, Breco” as one of the companies blacklisted by the US Department of Treasury for his alleged links to President Robert Mugabe.
It has been brought to The Times’ attention that one of Bredenkamp’s companies, trading only in South Africa in 1999, was bought out and has been independently owned since.
Breco Pty Ltd has nothing to do with Bredenkamp or any of his existing companies.
We apologise.

Paper gives woman HIV

IN AN article published on September 10 “Man ‘listens to heart’ and helps mother feed twins”, we stated that Amy Pillay was HIV-positive. She is HIV-negative.
We regret the error, which occurred during editing.

Frogmouth and his lovely voice

Also last week, in â€œAn opening night bash to Thai forâ€, we complimented Jonathan Roxmouth on his beautiful voice. Unfortunately, we called him Jonathan Frogmouth. We apologise for the error.

And:

We apologise to Kate Moss for any distress caused by our article last week regarding alleged events at her birthday party at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The story, which was first published in News of the World, was untrue. The News of the World has apologised and paid substantial damages to Moss. In its apology, News of the World said it had been offered information from a usually reliable source, which it now accepted was untrue. Link to both
