Fuzzy numbers etc.

advertiserLAST week’s NIE resource on Science questions answered by CSIRO incorrectly stated that there are 12 zeros in one billion billion. There are 24 zeros if a million times a million is doubled. Many now regard a billion as a thousand times a million. This would be 18 zeros when doubled.

Must be from the Really New Testament

advertiserAN incorrect Thought for the Day was published yesterday.
The Bible Society SA, which provides the Thought, was not responsible.
It should have read: “Lord God, you lead me along good and right paths in life.” Psalm 23:3 – Bible for Today.
Mark 7:21-23, from the Bible for Today, reads: “Out of your own heart come the things that corrupt you – evil ideas, vulgar deeds, theft, murder, adultery, greed, meanness, deceit, indecency, envy, insults, pride, and foolishness. – Jesus”

Here’s what they published on Sept. 23:

This is the thought of the day and this is where you put the thought of the day as if anyone has a thought for the day. And can’t work out what the hell is going on. But who knows what is happeningishness. – Jesus
Mark 7:21-23 (Bible for Today)

Thanks, Paul!

Share a name, become a scam artist

advertiserA MAN who scammed thousands of dollars from newly-arrived immigrants is not a barrister as reported in The Advertiser yesterday.
Harry Alevizos, 57, of Clearview, pleaded guilty in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday to fraud charges over his claims to be a registered migration agent.
The barrister and solicitor Harry Alevizos is another man and is in no way related to the offences. The Advertiser apologises for any harm caused to Mr Alevizos or his family.

Fuzzy numbers etc.

A STORY in The Advertiser yesterday stated that 9030 interstate visitors spent a night holidaying in SA in 2007, with that figure forecast to drop to 8699 this year.

The correct figures were 9,030,000 total visitor nights spent in SA in 2007, to drop to 8,699,000 during 2009.

Apology

ON PAGE 3 of the May 10, 2008, edition, an article inaccurately stated that a professional tennis player, Paul Hanley, had been charged by London police with date rape. In fact Mr Hanley was never charged.
After completing their inquiries into the allegation, about which Mr Hanley maintained there was no truth, the police decided that no further action was to be taken against him. The Advertiser regrets the error and unreservedly apologises to Mr Hanley for any distress or embarrassment caused.

Also publishd in Australia’s Courier Mail.

Crocodile Dundee?

A BRIEF letter from Darren Hill, of Hallett Cove, in The Advertiser on Monday, because of an editing error, contained the word “Australian” instead of “Austrian”. The letter should have read: “Daniel Ashdown (The Advertiser, 2/1/08) thinks Osama bin Laden must have charisma. I suggest he pick up a history book and read about a certain charismatic Austrian corporal and the effect he had on world peace.”
