Victim, not perpetrator

A MAN recently charged over an alleged assault at Coolum Beach Caravan Park, on the Sunshine Coast, was Raymond Robert Millar, 47, not Jeremy Michael Baird as reported in last week's edition. Mr Baird was in fact the victim. The Sunday Mail relied on incorrect information provided by the court. We apologise for any distress caused to Mr Baird's family.

In the December 7, 2008, edition of The Sunday Mail, an article titled “Don’t you own one of these, Senator?” and accompanying editorial titled “Disney plan plain goofy” were published on pages 5 and 68, respectively.
They reported on an overseas study trip taken by Queensland Senator Ian Macdonald in April and May 2008, which included a visit to Disneyland to speak with Disneyland executives about the idea of opening a theme park in North or Far North Queensland.
The article and headline could have been interpreted as suggesting Senator Macdonald spent $28,000 on a trip to Disneyland for information he could have got from a phone call. The article and editorial also could have been interpreted as suggesting Senator Macdonald had demanded the Australian Consulate in Los Angeles provide a driver to take him to Disneyland. We now recognise there was no foundation to these allegations and that Senator Macdonald’s visit to Disneyland was part of a wider overseas trip to the United Nations in New York. We regret the error and apologise to Senator Macdonald for any distress or embarrassment caused.

Mistaking satire for reality

An article last Sunday made reference to Queensland Red Quade Cooper and attributed quotes to him from a personal blog on his off-field rehabilitation after being charged with burglary last December. The blog was, in fact, a satirical piece posted on a website and was not written by Cooper. The Sunday Mail is committed to fair and accurate reporting and apologises to Cooper and the Reds for any offence caused.

ON March 15, in the Sunday Mail, we published photographs which were said to be of Ms Hanson.
It is clear that the pictures published are not of Pauline Hanson.
We made a mistake publishing those pictures.
We apologise to Ms Hanson for the hurt and embarrassment caused by the publication.
We have learnt a valuable lesson.

This story in the Times of London helps explain the above:

Mystery surrounds a set of nude pictures allegedly taken 30 years ago of the Australian far-right politician Pauline Hanson.
The photographs, published across Australian media at the weekend, purport to show the former One Nation leader partially naked and in skimpy lingerie.
But Ms Hanson says the photographs are not her, and has threatened to bare her belly button to prove it.

Apology

AN ARTICLE published on July 20 stated that Chris Evert admitted in an interview to having an affair with Greg Norman while both were married to their previous partners, and the affair caused the demise of their marriages.
That article was incorrect because Ms Evert did not make that admission.
The Sunday Mail apologises to Ms Evert and Mr Norman for the error.

This was also published in Australia’s Sunday Herald Sun and Sunday Times.
