A post on the Guardian’s Comment is Free site suffered from some poor — but amusing! — photo sourcing:

The caption really makes the error all the more wonderful. The photo has been fixed, though a correction was not placed on the story. Instead, a Guardian employee posted a corrective comment:

IN Saturday”s Liverpool Echo we reported on a fork lift truck driver who tested positive for drugs after crashing into a worker at the Jaguar Land Rover site, in Halewood. The report stated the incident happened just 24 hours after Graham Begley died in an accident at the factory and included a picture of Mr Begley. We wish to make it clear there was absolutely no link between the incident involving the fork lift truck driver, who was not directly employed by JLR, and the death of Mr Begley who was not a fork lift truck driver. We apologise to Mr Begley”s family for any distress inadvertently caused by the report.

A photo published on page A6 on Saturday incorrectly identified a drunk Toast Martinborough reveller who turned a firehose on the crowd. The man who appeared in Masterton District Court was Daniel Michael Lockyer. However the photograph published was in fact that of Lachlan McHattie, a Masterton builder who runs Lockstar Construction. Mr McHattie has no connection to Lockyer. He played no part in Lockyer’s offence. The error is regretted.

A PICTURE accompanying our story about window cleaner Graeme Dust,who was jailed for six years for trying to have his wife NIna killed, was not of her but was, in fact, a photograph of a person with no involvement in the case. A normally reliable agency supplied the photograph of a lady we have since learned is Mrs Sam Brand. We would liketo apologise to Mrs Brand and her family for any distress caused by this error. (Page 26, October 29).

South China Morning Post thinks George Foreman is Joe Frazier

That’s George Foreman, not Joe Frazier. Ouch.

The uncaptioned photograph published on C8, the Joe Frazier obituary page, in yesterday’s Sports section was of George Foreman. We regret the error.

IN yesterday’s report concerning three fatal road traffic accidents, a photograph purportedly of Aoife Ivers, who was injured in an accident near Portumna, was in fact of her friend, Gemma Hayde. Ms Hayde was not involved in the accident. We are happy to correct the position and apologise for any confusion caused.

A picture in some editions on Saturday with an article about a decision by John C. Liu, the New York City comptroller, to hire Robert Abrams, a former state attorney general, to review Mr. Liu’s campaign fundraising practices was published in error. It showed Robert W. Abrams, a defense lawyer who is deceased. Link

Man in photo deceased: The cutline on an archived photo that ran in some editions Tuesday with an article about the Vieux Carre Commission said the man pictured, Alan Shea, lives on Dauphine Street. Shea died in 2009.

ON PAGE 13 of last week’s edition of the Cornish Guardian (October 19) a court report concerning former Fifteen restaurant apprentice chef Kieran Charles Leverett was accompanied by a photograph captioned with his name.
It has been pointed out that the person in the photograph was not the defendant but a Mr Jake Joynes. We would like to make it clear Mr Joynes has no connection with any criminal proceedings. We offer our sincere apologies for any embarrassment or distress caused to Mr Joynes by the publication of the photograph.

In yesterday’s report of proceedings before Belfast Crown Court concerning a man accused of a driving offence arising from an incident in which Anita Russell was seriously injured, the photograph purporting to depict Ms Russell was in fact another woman who is not connected with those or any other criminal proceedings.
We apologise for any confusion caused as a result of this error.

In yesterday’s Western Daily Press we carried a photograph with a caption referring the the Welsh mezzo-soprano Katharine Jenkins. Unfortunately a technical error failed to update the picture on the page before it was printed.
We would like to apologise to Miss Jenkins for any embarrassment caused.
The printed picture showed Conservative MP for Hendon Matthew Offord and his dog Maximus take part in the Westminster Dog of the Year event at Victoria Tower Gardens in London.

A photo on Page E4 on Sunday was misidentified. The photo identified as 9/11 victim Paul Beatini was actually Scott McGovern, also a victim of the attack.

*Correction Sept. 8, 2011: The original headline on this post referred to “9/1″ instead of “9/11.” I regret the error.

A story with the headline ‘Lingerie buyer at BTs settles case over dismissal’ published in yesterday’s Irish Independent was accompanied by a photograph captioned ‘Former Brown Thomas buyer Mary Mullin leaves the High Court in Dublin’. In fact, the photograph was that of Ms Aoife Newton, solicitor for IBEC. We are happy to clarify this matter. Link

Oh, a bit of a photo error

Our article of May 7 2011 “8st kick-boxing WPC scares off thugs” included a photograph said to be that of Richard Chadwick who was convicted of an attack on six people in Leeds, including bursting into one home and threatening to kill the occupant’s baby. The photograph was actually of Mark O’Brien who has no connection to this offence whatsoever.
