A story in Wednesday’s Local & State section incorrectly stated that James Lambert, who was fatally shot Tuesday by an off-duty firefighter, had been convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child. Because of an error interpreting court records, the Observer wrongly attributed that conviction to Lambert. Instead, another man by the same name and age was convicted of the crime. Link

In “Two mullahs went into a bar…” (November 26th) we cited Omid Djalili as a British Muslim comedian. He jokes about, among others, Muslims but is himself a Bahai. Sorry. Link

South China Morning Post thinks George Foreman is Joe Frazier

That’s George Foreman, not Joe Frazier. Ouch.

The uncaptioned photograph published on C8, the Joe Frazier obituary page, in yesterday’s Sports section was of George Foreman. We regret the error.

ON PAGE 13 of last week’s edition of the Cornish Guardian (October 19) a court report concerning former Fifteen restaurant apprentice chef Kieran Charles Leverett was accompanied by a photograph captioned with his name.
It has been pointed out that the person in the photograph was not the defendant but a Mr Jake Joynes. We would like to make it clear Mr Joynes has no connection with any criminal proceedings. We offer our sincere apologies for any embarrassment or distress caused to Mr Joynes by the publication of the photograph.

A photo caption on page B1 Sunday with a story about WynSpring Family Resource Center’s Diva Day incorrectly identified Chayil McFalls as a former foster child who has been adopted. Chayil, 6, who has never been in foster care, attended the event as a volunteer. Link

The picture caption accompanying ‘ How first a marriage then a political career were ended’ (22 January 2011) incorrectly identified the plain-clothes policeman appearing in the picture between Mr Johnson and his wife, as DC Paul Rice, who it was alleged had an affair with Mrs Johnson. In fact the picture was of Sergeant Paul Champion who had no involvement whatsoever, and we apologise to him for our error and the distress this caused to him and his family. Link

Correction: the original version of this post indicated that [Tucson Catholic] Bishop Kicanas admitted to performing oral sex on West, which, clearly, is not the case. Kicanas merely asked the Board to spare West’s life. It was West’s former neighbor who admitted to performing oral sex on him. The post has since been modified. Link

Guardian names the wrong Neda, again

“Every revolution has its face”, said a leader comment, noting that in Iran’s case in recent times the face was that of a young woman shot in the chest during a demonstration (Syria: The truth will out, 2 June, page 32). This was the latest of numerous Guardian slips since 2009 in naming Neda Soltani as the woman killed that year during Tehran’s protests over disputed presidential elections. She was actually Neda Agha-Soltan. Confusion in 2009 led to the name of a different individual, Neda Soltani, gaining wide circulation – to such an extent that the latter felt impelled to leave Iran. Other Guardian mentions of Neda Soltani in 2011 include a 1 June reference on our Middle East Live blog; and a reference in an online technology piece – Google to release Chrome, Earth and Picasa downloads for Iran, 19 January. In a news analysis piece about Tunisia on 15 January, we also introduced a different wrinkle, Neda Agha-Soltani (A wake-up call for the region, 15 January, page 3). Link

An article on Monday about sentiment among local officials and residents in Ossining, N.Y., in favor of closing the Sing Sing prison misstated the current occupation of Richard Wishnie, who said, ”They would never have built a maximum-security prison in a place like this today.” He is a lobbyist, not a Westchester County legislator. (Mr. Wishnie served in the county legislature from 1993 to 2003.) Link

In some editions Monday, a Money & Investing article about the Galleon insider-trading trial was incorrectly accompanied by a photo of Arindam Ghosh, a vice president at consulting firm Analysis Group. Because of incorrect information from Bloomberg News, he was misidentified as former Intel Corp. executive Rajiv Goel, a defendant in the Galleon case. In addition, the court drawing with the article showed prosecutor Jonathan Streeter, but the caption incorrectly identified him as prosecutor Andrew Michaelson. Link
