This was the latest of numerous Guardian slips since 2009 in naming Neda Soltani as the woman killed that year during Tehran’s protests over disputed presidential elections. She was actually Neda Agha-Soltan. Confusion in 2009 led to the name of a different individual, Neda Soltani, gaining wide circulation – to such an extent that the latter felt impelled to leave Iran. Other Guardian mentions of Neda Soltani in 2011 include a 1 June reference on our Middle East Live blog; and a reference in an online technology piece – Google to release Chrome, Earth and Picasa downloads for Iran, 19 January. In a news analysis piece about Tunisia on 15 January, we also introduced a different wrinkle, Neda Agha-Soltani (A wake-up call for the region, 15 January, page 3). Link
