IN yesterday’s report concerning three fatal road traffic accidents, a photograph purportedly of Aoife Ivers, who was injured in an accident near Portumna, was in fact of her friend, Gemma Hayde. Ms Hayde was not involved in the accident. We are happy to correct the position and apologise for any confusion caused.

A picture in some editions on Saturday with an article about a decision by John C. Liu, the New York City comptroller, to hire Robert Abrams, a former state attorney general, to review Mr. Liu’s campaign fundraising practices was published in error. It showed Robert W. Abrams, a defense lawyer who is deceased. Link

Man in photo deceased: The cutline on an archived photo that ran in some editions Tuesday with an article about the Vieux Carre Commission said the man pictured, Alan Shea, lives on Dauphine Street. Shea died in 2009.

The Daily Mirror would like to apologise to Julie Kirkbride and Andrew MacKay for the article which appeared in yesterday’s paper. We acknowledge that Miss Kirkbride was cleared of any wrongdoing over her expenses by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards and that Mr MacKay, whilst criticised by the Commissioner over his expense claims, acted completely transparently throughout and on the advice of the Fees Office.

In yesterday’s report of proceedings before Belfast Crown Court concerning a man accused of a driving offence arising from an incident in which Anita Russell was seriously injured, the photograph purporting to depict Ms Russell was in fact another woman who is not connected with those or any other criminal proceedings.
We apologise for any confusion caused as a result of this error.

ON 16 August, 2009, we published an article concerning well known businessman, Gary McCausland, which wrongly suggested that Mr McCausland may have tried to renege on his parental responsibilities and that he failed in his obligation to pay child maintenance.
We accept that Mr McCausland honoured his legal and parental duties, and that it was he who had to seek the assistance of the Court in this regard.
We sincerely apologise to Mr McCausland and his family for any embarrassment and distress caused by our article.

ON June 24 last year we wrongly reported that Martin O’Neill, while manager of Aston Villa, had been secretly interviewed for the position of Liverpool manager, in breach of Premier League rules and his contract.
We accept that no such interview took place.
On August 10 and 11, following Mr O’Neill’s resignation as Aston Villa manager, we published a number of articles claiming that Mr O’Neill had lost the confidence, faith and respect of the dressing room, causing a players’ revolt which forced him to resign.
We also alleged that his resignation resulted in general celebration amongst the squad. We now accept that Mr O’Neill had not lost the dressing room, there was no players’ revolt and no general celebration over Mr O’Neill’s departure.
We apologise to Mr O’Neill for these false allegations and have agreed to pay him damages for libel and his reasonable legal costs.

IN our article ‘eastenders extra’s killer to serve life’ we stated that Brian Atkinson, murderer of eastenders’ extra Kevlin eurie, had got eurie’s girlfriend pregnant. In fact it was the sister of one of eurie’s friends that was pregnant by Atkinson. We apologise for the mistake. (page 23, July 9).

Apology, with damages

In an article on January 18, 2011 headed "Upton No Good" we claimed that Karren Brady, vice-chairman of West Ham United, had sent text messages to a number of players encouraging them to rise up against the manager Avram Grant and demand his sacking. We now accept that Ms Brady never sent any such text messages.

On 26 January 2011 we published an article headed "'Jibe was just banter but Dad so sorry'" in which we quoted, in error, Jemma Keys, the daughter of former Sky TV presenter Richard Keys, saying that in a private conversation Ms Brady had laughed and joked with Mr Keys about his comments. This was despite reporting that Ms Brady had publicly condemned the sexist comments made by Mr Keys. In fact, no conversation took place between Ms Brady and Mr Keys.

We apologise to Ms Brady for these untrue allegations. We have agreed to pay her damages and legal costs. Link

IN Brian Reade’s column on June 3, he suggested that oil firm Exxon is regularly responsible for spillages in West Africa on a worse scale than the current Gulf disaster. This is not the case, and we are happy to set the record straight.
