Because of an editing error, an article on Monday about the failure of France’s opposition Socialists to pick a new leader at their party congress over the weekend referred incorrectly to one of the three candidates, who is best known as the architect of the 35-hour workweek. The candidate, Martine Aubry, is a woman. Link
The Istanbul Journal article on Thursday, about the mixed reaction in Turkey to an unflattering documentary film about Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, referred incorrectly to a viewer who criticized the film in a posting on the film’s Web site. The viewer, who signed the posting as Tulay, is a woman. Link

Mayor nightmare: An assumption by a reporter changed the gender of the Mayor of Gosnells (Suburban graffiti costs millions, page 19, October 13). As there is no doubt Olwen Searle believes graffiti vandals should be jailed, so there is no doubt she is a woman.

A chart last Monday with an article about the Senate race in New Hampshire referred incorrectly, in some editions, to the incumbent Republican who Democrats hope can be defeated by Jeanne Shaheen. As an accompanying picture showed, the New Hampshire senator, John E. Sununu, is a man. Link
