A detailed clarification of the “butt drag”

A front-page story Sunday about a Buchanan High School wrestler accused of sexual battery said the "butt drag" maneuver involves a wrestler putting fingers in his rival's anus to get leverage. There's no formal definition of the move, but coaches say it involves grabbing the butt cheek of a rival. Coaches vary on how often anal penetration occurs, but they say that it should never be intentional. The move does not involve skin-on-skin contact; the wrestler practicing the move is pushing his fingers against his opponent's uniform.

In addition, stories about the case on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday incorrectly said the wrestler had been expelled. He has been suspended pending an expulsion hearing. Link

Kanaan Marcelino, 19, was arrested by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of having unlawful sex with a minor more than three years younger than he is. A news brief in Tuesday’s Local section incorrectly said Marcelino was arrested for engaging in sexual acts with a minor 3 years old or younger.

But she is a girl

A headline on Page 2 of Wednesday’s Local & State section incorrectly reported that a 4-year-old girl had been thrown from a truck. The girl was riding in a car, not a truck; her father was thrown from the vehicle, but she was not. Their car collided with a pickup.

This story about a transgender inmate in the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla incorrectly identified Terry Thornton as a state prison spokesman. Thornton is a spokeswoman. Link

May 9–A woman shot in the head at a west-central Fresno apartment was in critical condition after the incident. A headline in Thursday’s 5-Minute Bee on Page A2 incorrectly reported that the shooting was fatal. Link

Inerrant, not inherent

A story on Saturday’s Life cover incorrectly stated that the Rev. George Posthumus, pastor of Riverpark Bible Church in Fresno, teaches the Bible as the inherent word of God. He teaches the Bible as God’s word and inerrant. Link

A Setting it Straight item on the back page of Sunday’s A section incorrectly stated that a photo of the Patriot Guard Riders saluting Senior Airman Nick Eischen’s casket appeared Friday. The photo ran in Saturday’s paper. Link

A story on page B2 Wednesday about Valley high school teams competing in the National Future Farmers of America Convention had incorrect spellings for the names of five students. The correct names are Austin Hubbell, Willie Wright, Emily Cehrs, Chris Difalco and Alyssa Eubank. Link
