Bad for the campaign

In the Aug. 9 editorial recommending Don Fleming for Sheriff in the Flagler County Republican primary, the News-Journal noted that William Karback, who is challenging Fleming, worked for the Sheriff for six months in 2005 before being fired. Karback’s termination was for administrative reasons, not for misconduct. Link

Not for everyone

A remark by Jim King, director of the ARC of Volusia, quoted Monday referred to a lack of reading skills by mentally disabled workers. Actually, the quote referred only to a 42-year-old woman mentioned later in the story. Link

Everything old is new again

The listings of “marriage dissolutions granted” in Thursday’s and Friday’s public records were divorces granted in 2007. Additionally, the marriages listed Thursday were marriages that took place in 2007. Link

Additional pain and suffering

We just came across this apology from October 16:

Some errors can’t be excused or explained. Our error in Tuesday’s editorial marking the death of Adam D. Quinn in Afghanistan last week is one such error. We mistakenly referred to Quinn as his brother, Asa, who is 19. We illustrated the editorial with a picture of Asa Quinn.
We regret the errors and deeply apologize to the Quinn family for adding to their anguish in this most difficult time. Our intention was, and remains, to honorably recognize Adam’s service and mourn his passing.
