Retraction and apology

This retraction and apology appeared in several of the papers owned by Canada's Sun Media:

On March 9 we published a graphic titled "Wind turbines: friend or foe?"

The graphic wrongly attributed claims to the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CANWEA) that wind turbines are harmful to human health. CANWEA's position is that the balance of expert scientific and medical information to date clearly indicates there is no direct link between wind turbines and effects on human health. This is backed by Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health as well as the National Public Health Institute in Quebec.

We unreservedly retract any attribution to CANWEA to the contrary and apologize for any harm and inconvenience this may have caused. Link

Not a scam

An Aug. 26 story in the Sun quoted police warning of scams related to police-linked charities.

One of the agencies mentioned by cops, the Canadian Police Comedy Festival, is a bona fide event in its eighth year and is not a scam.

The Sun apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the story. Link

The Sun reported yesterday the Applewood Community Association was getting $4.2 million for their recreational facilities. In fact, Ottawa is giving them $421,273. The Sun apologizes for the mistake. Link

Apology

Michael Platt’s editorial on July 21, 2008 may have inadvertently left the impression that General Motors in some way supported neo-Nazis. That was not the intention of the line in question and the Sun greatly regrets not being more clear in the story. The Sun apologizes to GM, its dealers and customers. General Motors has employees in six continents, 192 countries, 23 time zones, and works in more than 50 languages. GM strives to create a culture and a business environment based upon inclusion, mutual respect, responsibility, and understanding of all people. Link

Apology

In an article published in yesterday’s Sun about a lawsuit filed by a Calgary Mountie who was removed from his post as head of the surveillance unit, the headline incorrectly referred to Cpl. Donald Parke as an ex-cop. Parke is in fact still employed with the RCMP, but is currently on medical leave. Sun Media apologizes for any confusion this error caused.
