In the Feedback item "Current Home Loan Bank System Works," on page 8 of the Nov. 17 issue, an editing error caused the omission of the word "not" in this sentence: "While these are worthy goals, they should not be done at the expense of the mission the banks serve so well today." Link

On page 2 of the July 23 paper and page 12 of the July 24 paper, the Earnings Calendar chart misstated SunTrust Banks Inc.’s per-share loss for the second quarter. It lost 41 cents, not $4.41. A typographical error was to blame.

In the July 1 paper, a story on page 16, “Viewpointe Offering a Cheap Connection for Small Banks, page 16, had several errors. First, it misdescribed Viewpointe’s new Internet connectivity service, which uses an existing file-sharing application, not a new software product. The story also misstated Viewpointe’s ownership structure; it is owned by five banks and International Business Machines.
In addition, Diane Scott, Viewpointe’s CEO, was misquoted as saying the cost of maintaining dedicated lines makes its Pointe2Pointe a poor fit for small banks; she said they may not have the resources or check volume to justify the expense of a dedicated line.

So is it a thrift bank?

In the March 14 paper, a brief item on page 9, “Talks Off, Kelly Trims Stake in Fremont,” misdescribed Fremont General. It is not a thrift company; one of its units, Fremont Investment and Loan, is a California industrial bank.
