BRATISLAVA, January 18, (SITA) – The media ethics watchdog the Press
Council of the Slovak Republic claims that the mass circulation tabloid
NOVY CAS daily had violates principles of journalistic ethics According
to the Press Council, in the article “Trencin County: SKK 10-million
Bargain without Competition” on November 23, 2005 the daily published
false information. Afterwards representatives of self-government of the
Trencin County demanded that the daily publishes a corrected text, as
they considered the information released in the text false and the
daily thus breached principles of journalistic ethics. However, daily
rejected demands for a correction Based on documents presented by the
director of self-government office in the Trencin County Pavol Kristof
and a statement by the daily editor, the Press Council decided that the
article included false information.

The Press Council thus issued a warning for the daily for a
violation the principles included in the Journalistic Ethics Code of
Slovak Syndicate of Journalists. The daily should accept the county’s
demand to publish a correction, says Press Council’s chairman Miroslav
Cipar.
