Here’s a Regret riddle in honor of our inauspicious launch: What happened forty years ago, two months ago and then today that requires no less than two corrections?
Answer: Media coverage of the US Civil Rights Act of 1964.
When it was passed all those years ago, Kentucky’s Lexington Herald-Leader was heavy into not covering the civil rights movement. So on the 40h anniversary of the Act’s passing on July 4 of this year, the paper published this amazing apology: “It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission.” It, of course, then turned into one of those “Holy Shit, Martha!” stories that papers everywhere covered to make readers spit out their morning coffee.
Regret wasn’t around back then (in 1964 or in July) so we hereby start our first post off with our very first (of many) corrections: It has come to Regret’s attention that, due to laziness and lack of the $15-a-month required to launch this sucker, we did not cover the Lexington Herald-Leader’s coverage of its lack of coverage of the civil right’s movement forty years ago. We regret the omission, our sloth, our lack of funds, the history of racism in North America, the existence of Von Dutch, the way the media often buries its mistakes and corrections, and not investing in Microsoft when we never had the chance.
Thanks for visiting. Off we go…
