Regret the Error

On December 5 2007 we published a report concerning proceedings taking place in Birmingham County Court before Recorder Timothy Straker QC sitting as an Election Commissioner.
We reported that a Mr Abdul Aziz was a potential witness in the case, and that he had submitted a written statement to the court but was too frightened to give evidence. This was incorrect.
In fact, the person named during the evidence was not Mr Aziz; Mr Aziz is not a witness in the hearing, and has never issued any written statements to the court.
We apologise for this error and for any embarrassment it may have caused to Mr Aziz.
