Apology

IN our article "Tennis legend Martina and the Russian beauty" on August 25, we reported that Martina Navratilova and Julia Lemigova were believed to be engaged after being photographed on holiday in St Tropez, each wearing rings on their left hands. There is no truth in this. The pair are not engaged and have not [...]

Somebody blew it

Keva McKibbin ("Modern Weddings", Magazine, August 22) did not say that she was "blown off her face" when she first met her husband, but that she was "blown off her feet". We apologise for any embarrassment caused by our reporter’s mishearing.   Report an error

Victim, defendant… whatever

Because of a reporting error, a story on Thursday’s Page 2B incorrectly identified murder victim Andre Garcia. "Taz" is the nickname for defendant Roger Arias Jr.  Report an error

Fuzzy numbers etc.

CORRECTION: In our June/July 2009 article "10 Ways to Save Your Child’s Life," we incorrectly stated that about 115 children reported missing each day are the victims of "stereotypical" kidnappings. The correct statistic is about 115 each year. We regret the error.  Report an error

A factual matter regarding the Leibovitz story. Goldman wrote in regard to a loan agreement that Leibovitz entered into with a company called Art Capital that, "Under the terms of the agreement, says a person familiar with the loan, Art Capital could be entitled to up to 22.5 percent of all the proceeds from the [...]

Paper brings Django Reinhardt back from the dead

McClatchy Watch spotted a rather remarkable concert recommendation in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Have you heard of Django Reinhardt?" it asks. Then it reports that "he returns to Mount Crested Butte again Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5-6) for DjangoFest Colorado." Well, that would definitely be worth seeing. Alas, Reinhardt is not coming back from the [...]

Death by media

IN "Vision for a hospice served up at brekkie" (NewsMail, August 25) the NewsMail incorrectly reported Veronique Dorron’s husband had passed away. The NewsMail wishes to advise Ms Dorron’s husband remains in good health. The NewsMail apologises for any distress caused.  Report an error

The misquote that defies defeat cont.

Hamas-Israel negotiations: An Op-Ed article titled "Can Hamas Cut a Deal for Peace?," which was published on June 17, 2003, paraphrased and partially quoted former Israeli army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Moshe Yaalon as having "talked of rubbing in the fact that the Palestinians are ‘a defeated people.’ " The Times was recently made [...]

Best of luck with recruiting…

The Chevy Volt will run for about 40 miles on electricity and about 300 miles using both electricity and gasoline. A different kind of giant

An Aug. 24 Style article incorrectly referred to HealthSouth as an "insurance giant." HealthSouth is not an insurance company; it is a health-care provider. Link  Report an error

What’s the name of that bay?

Yesterday’s centre-spread photo was said by its caption to show a great white shark snapping up a seal pup in False Bay, South Africa. In fact, a rubber seal decoy had been used to attract the shark (Eyewitness: Seal Island, South Africa, pages 18-19). Link  Report an error

Pretty close

Apology

On Sunday, August, 2, in our article Robin Hood And His Merry Hell In The Pub, we said that Russell Crowe had been banned from, amongst others, the Brickmakers pub in Windlesham, Surrey whilst staying in the area filming a new Robin Hood epic. We have been informed that Mr Crowe has never been to [...]

Reuters corrects story about “German Lego giraffe penis”

A large Lego giraffe greets visitors at the entrance to the Legoland Discovery Center in Germany. And if you believe a Reuters report from this morning, people can’t help but steal the giraffe’s penis. The story had a bit of fun with this: BERLIN (Reuters) – Visitors to a tourist attraction in Berlin have been [...]

A slight downgrade

Editing changes resulted in a story saying that a five-star Berlin hotel was offering to accept a work of art, rather than money, as payment from artists seeking bed and board. Artists can indeed stay, but the setting is not a hotel. It is a suite dedicated to this project at an art institute (Room [...]

Fuzzy numbers etc.

Because of an editing error, an article on Friday about evidence of the reversal of a 30-year trend of wealthy people becoming wealthier misstated the acreage of the Hawaiian estate recently sold by John McAfee, a software designer whose net worth has plummeted. It is 5.34 acres, not 534. Link  Report an error

Paul Krugman is sorry to all of you “lederhosen-wearing holey-cheese eaters”

Link Here’s the offending section: …the truth is that the [health] plans on the table would, roughly speaking, turn America into Switzerland — which may be occupied by lederhosen-wearing holey-cheese eaters, [...]

A less than ideal sendoff

Wagner and the pink knickers

A comment piece about achievement and frailty in the lives of artistic greats mentioned Wagner’s reminder to his favourite Vienna chambermaid to wear purple knickers next time they met.
