Source of error
After a car fire on April 12, Ryan Sanford, 37, told a man who stopped to help him that he had lost a leg during military service. However, in a second interview with the Register on Wednesday, Sanford said he never was in the military and that he lost his leg in an accident unrelated to military service. As a result of Sanford’s original statements, incorrect information about Sanford’s military record appeared in stories on ocregister.com April 14, on Page 1 of the Local section in the April 15 edition of the Register, and in an April 15 follow-up story on ocregister.com.
