Never trust a gecko

nytbanner1A capsule summary with the Advertising column on Thursday, referring to videos on NYTimes.com about commercials for the auto insurer Geico, described their content incorrectly. As the column correctly reported, Warren E. Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway are mentioned in print advertisements for Geico, not in the commercials.
The column also described incorrectly one of the commercials, in which an executive plays a trust exercise with Geico’s mascot, a gecko, saying, “I fall backwards and you catch me.” The executive falls backward silently while the gecko murmurs “Oh, dear,” then the spot ends; there is no sound of the executive falling to the ground.
