Apology

sunday_independent-ireIN our edition of May 15, 2005, we published an article concerning the murder of Robert McCartney.
The article referred to a contribution which Susan McKay made to the RTE programme Questions and Answers.
In response to a question about whether the McCartney family would get justice, Susan McKay replied that she sincerely wished that they would. She spoke eloquently about the brave campaign which the family had fought. She was also very critical about people who had information but had not spoken out.
The Sunday Independent accepts that the article and the accompanying cartoon did not fairly represent what she said on the programme and were inappropriate and offensive.
We wish to apologise to Ms McKay for any hurt or offence caused in her personal and professional capacity.
