Not cool

In a recent column talking about jet contrails, we had a small but significant error. That column stated that the exhaust from a jet engine is cool. It should, of course, have said that the exhaust is hot and when it encounters cold, moist air at flight altitude, that creates the contrail cloud. Thanks to those readers who wrote in pointing out our mistake. Link
