Hofmann obituary: The obituary of Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD, in Wednesday’s California section said he was survived by his wife, Anita. She died in December. The story also referred to peyote mushrooms. Peyote is a cactus. Link

    What I find interesting about these obituaries is that they either gloss over or omit Hofmann’s work in developing the family of drugs of which Pitocin is the best-known member. Pitocin may have saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of women and prevented tens of millions of otherwise necessary hysterectomies worldwide.

    I suppose being part of the team that saved that many lives doesn’t sound as interesting as creating a recreational drug, but it does seem more important by far.
