Some expensive gas

An article on Sunday about an agreement between Russia and two Central
Asian countries for a new gas pipeline to Russia rendered incorrectly a
word in a quotation from Vice President Dick Cheney on a visit to
Kazakhstan in 2006. He said that Russia wields its energy supplies as
“tools of intimidation or blackmail,” not “tools for intimidation and
blackmail.” It also misstated the timing of his visit. It was May of
last year, not last summer. The article also misstated the price Russia
pays Turkmenistan for gas and the price for which it resells the gas to
European customers. It buys the gas for $100 per 1,000 cubic meters and
resells it for $250 per 1,000 cubic meters — not $100 and $250 “per
cubic meter.”
