Clerks II (and III)

A chart with the continuation of a front-page article on Aug. 30 about
the number of female law clerks hired by Supreme Court justices
included incorrect figures on the clerks hired by Justice Sandra Day
O’Connor in two court terms and misstated the percentage of her clerks
since 2000 who have been female. In the 2005-2006 term, two of four
O’Connor clerks were women — not one of three. In 2004-2005, two of
four were women — not one of four. From the 2000 term until Justice
O’Connor’s retirement in January 2005, 52 percent of her clerks were
female, not 46 percent. A corrected chart can be found at www.nytimes.com/2006/08/30/washington/30scotus.html.

A chart with the continuation of a front-page article on Aug. 30 about
the number of female law clerks hired by Supreme Court justices
misstated the percentage of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s clerks since
2000 who have been female, and a correction in this space yesterday
misstated the year of her retirement in some copies. From the 2000 term
until Justice O’Connor’s retirement, 52 percent of her clerks were
female, not 46 percent. She retired in January 2006, not 2005.
