An Australian apology
An article published on the front page on November 22, 2005 entitled
"Culture of navy sex bias laid bare" by Natasha Robinson, concerned
legal proceedings in which Captain Di Pietro was a witness.
Another witness in the proceedings gave evidence about being belittled
and bullied while she was a navy executive officer. That article
incorrectly reported that the captain was the person who had bullied
the witness. The article also incorrectly attributed various belittling
remarks to the captain and incorrectly alleged he had sought to
cover-up his sexual harassment.
The Australian acknowledges the article is not an accurate report of
the proceedings and that the captain is not the person named by the
witness as her harasser. The Australian apologises for the hurt and
embarrassment the article caused to the captain and to his family. Link to excerpt
